Arabic diacritization: reading beyond the letters

Arabic diacritization proposes vowel marks for text that is usually written without them. A written word can have several readings, and its final vowel may depend on its grammatical role.
Separate the decisions
Vowels within a word and grammatical endings are related but distinct. Ask whether an evaluation includes final vowels and how it treats punctuation, numbers and existing marks.
Evaluate your own domain
News, historical texts and chat messages use different vocabulary. Review names and ambiguous verbs in context. Keep the original text alongside the proposed output and a human correction.
Document the limits
Compare systems using the same test set and scoring policy. Treat output as a suggestion that needs review, especially in teaching and publishing. Record the model version and preprocessing settings.
